When and why did you decide to start your own business?

2003 I started making cards for my family and my mother thought they were so good I should sell them.  So, I did.  The following year I took up invitations.  I now do both.  It is just me.  I am a stay at home mom to two boys, so a SMALL business is just perfect for me.

How did you come up with the name of your business?

My oldest son is Jack.  He was my only one at the time I created the business.

I am 37.  My husband is an administrator at a school.  He works very hard to educate our young people.  My two boys are Jack, 6, and Daniel, 2.  They are wonderful boys!  I only do things for my family or the business.  I’m pretty boring!

What motivates you to keep your business going?It is fun!  I enjoy making cards and invitations.  The creativity is something I need after a long day of play dough, soccer practice, the grocery store, etc.  You know what I mean?

Is it hard balancing work and family?

No because my business is so small I can se my own hours and it rarely detracts from my family.

What are your hobbies or interests?

As I said before, I just keep my boys happy (all three of them the big one too!).  I started this business due to my scrapbooking, so I do that as well.  Got to keep all of my family pics up to date!

What advice would you give to moms who are looking to start their own business or who are just starting their business?

Get a business plan, see if you can really do it, and jump in!

What’s the best thing you’ve learned since being a Savvy Business Mom?

I really CAN be a great mom and run a fun business.

How do you advertise your business? Which methods proved successful?

Local bridal guides and several internet wedding guides.  Word of mouth has proved great too!
